Permanent exhibition

According to a Jewish saying, the secret of reconciliation is in remembrance. Since the majority of the Jewish population of Prekmurje and their descendants were deprived of their lives and the possibility of preserving their memories during the Second World War, it is the duty of all of us to remember them and to apologise for the inhuman acts of our ancestors.

As we enter the synagogue in Lendava, may we speak the words of Rabbi Alfred Schőner and greet with the ancient Jewish greeting ‘shalom aleichem’, that is, may peace be in all and eternal peace follow all those who once turned to the living God, the creator of life, the world and light, the Lord of Heaven, between these hallowed walls. May all those whose lives have been taken from them by human hatred find peace at last, and may hope be born in our hearts that the time will come when man will no longer be a wolf to man and when men will no longer know war. We can only build bridges between our souls through solidarity, mutual respect, tolerance, true example, a sincere word and prayer.
